Location: A Devonwide role with a significant focus supporting groups in Northern Devon (Hybrid working with Northern Devon base).

We are seeking a community minded person with experience in health, and passionate about ‘active ageing’. By joining Active Devon you will help make sure that movement is a positive experience for people of all backgrounds as they age.

About us

Active Devon is a community focussed, not for profit organisation with a vision of everyone in Devon active for life. We know the benefits of being active are life-changing, helping to reduce inequalities and delivering huge value in our communities. We hope that you will want to join us in making movement a positive part of people’s lives, whatever their background.

What you’ll be doing

Our brand new Local Partnerships Manager for Health & Active Ageing will be responsible for coordinating and growing delivery of our Live Longer Better Citizen Activation programmes in several locations across Northern Devon, as well as supporting Live Longer Better and connected healthy active ageing work across the whole county. This involves working closely with local partners from the VCSE, Community, Primary care and leisure and activity sectors.

Live Longer Better is an innovative programme enabling and empowering older adults to learn, overcome barriers and increase confidence to become more physically, cognitively and socially active, increasing independence and reducing the need for health and social care.

The role will have an important strategic dimension as it will provide the opportunity to strengthen Active Devon’s work in two of our key strategic themes, Movement for Health & Wellbeing and Movement in Later Life. This will involve developing strong, collaborative relationships with Primary Care and supporting them to improve pathways to physical activity for patients and staff.

What experience you’ll need

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong fit with Active Devon’s values and combine a passion for the role of physical activity and movement with relevant experience and track record. We are particularly interested to hear from applicants who have specific interest in physical activity, movement and sport’s contribution to health & wellbeing outcomes and/or for older people specifically. Experience in, and understanding of, Devon’s health and care system, or public health would be advantageous, as would wider an understanding of community and physical activity sector. This could be from a previous paid role, lived experience or community involvement as a volunteer.  Awareness of addressing inequality in Devon and how systems work together in local places for the benefit of communities would also be beneficial.

This is a fantastic opportunity for people with excellent relationship building skills and a passion for helping people. These will be allied with proven project planning, management and implementation skills. We are always keen to hear from people who have lived experience of the challenges and barriers that can prevent people leading active lifestyles. You’ll be joining a highly regarded, community focussed organisation which works at the leading edge of community based physical activity, sport and movement.

The role would suit committed, values driven people who are motivated to make a difference and looking to take their success and personal growth to the next level. Successful candidates will share Active Devon’s values and possess a real passion for supporting participation in physical activity and reducing inequalities. They will be able to demonstrate clearly transferable skills and experiences or draw upon experience in a front-line active lifestyles, education or health development role (voluntary or professional).

What you’ll get in return

As well as the opportunity to work as part of an energetic and vibrant team, the successful candidate will benefit from:

  • Generous salary with defined benefits (career average) pension scheme
  • Flexible working scheme
  • 26 days annual leave entitlement (pro rata)
  • Various active workplace initiatives
  • Access to an employee benefits programme, including a cycle to work scheme
