Cheltenham Borough Council is seeking a dedicated Pest Control Officer to join our team.
The post holder will work with a Senior Pest Control Officer to provide a high quality pest control service across the Borough and surrounding area. You will play a vital role in providing an efficient service to other Council departments and to private customers across both residential and commercial areas.
As a Pest Control Officer you’ll tackle infestations head – on, delivering safe and effective treatments across a range of environments while promoting public health and environmental safety. You will be a vital part of a responsive and high-impact team.

Key Responsibilities
• To help deliver a high quality, efficient and effective pest control service across
Cheltenham and surrounding areas.
• To respond to allocated requests for service and complaints and to apply pesticides
and rodenticides in domestic, commercial, industrial, recreational and agricultural
premises as required ensuring that all such treatment is in accordance with relevant
health and safety, animal welfare and environmental legislation
• To undertake investigation and testing of drainage systems where such work becomes
necessary as a part of pest control
• To ensure all work is conducted in accordance with agreed safe working practices
including ensuring that pesticides are stored safely and used in accordance with the
manufacture’s guidelines and the Council’s set down procedures in order to ensure
the safety of staff, customers, non-target species and avoid contamination of the
environment
• To undertake promotional and educational based activities aimed at removing
harbourage for pests and reducing infestations.
• To undertake activities aimed at promoting the Council’s commercial pest treatment
service with a view to securing contracts
• To foster and maintain strong relationships with relevant partners in order to ensure
the delivery of solutions to pest problems
• To assist in the development of operating procedures and ensure existing procedures
are followed, so that the highest standards are maintained. To adhere to procedures
to ensure that quality data are reported and used in decision-making processes, and to
demonstrate through behaviour and actions, a firm commitment to data security and
confidentiality as appropriate
• To maintain daily work records, time sheets, driver’s logs and all other records as
required • To maintain effective communication, throughout the organisation, in
accordance with systems and procedures
• Maintain a working knowledge of existing and newly introduced materials, equipment
and poisons used in pest control and associated health and safety precautions
• Be responsible for and act as driver of the Council owned vehicles used in the pest
control service and ensure that such vehicles are appropriately equipped and
maintained
• To undertake office and telephone cover for booking & enquiries when required
