Join Learn Devon as a Digital Skills and Community Engagement Tutor

Are you passionate about helping adult learners build confidence, develop essential digital skills and take their next steps into work, learning or everyday independence?

Learn Devon is seeking a dedicated and experienced tutor to deliver an exciting programme of digital skills and community-based courses across East and South East Devon, with occasional delivery elsewhere in the county. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly and inclusive curriculum team and make a real, lasting difference to learners, residents and communities across Devon.

We are looking for a friendly, patient and enthusiastic tutor to join our Digital Skills team. The role will focus mainly on supporting adults to develop their digital skills, while also contributing to wider Community and Engagement programmes. You will deliver both accredited qualifications, from Entry Level to Level 3, tailored learning sessions  and employability skills designed around learner and community needs.

You will support learners to progress at their own pace in welcoming, inclusive classroom environments within community venues. You may also deliver online sessions in more advanced digital subjects, such as introductory programming, online safety and cybersecurity, depending on curriculum need and your areas of experience.

About the role

As a Tutor with Learn Devon, you will deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across a range of subjects. You will work with adult learners, and some younger learners aged 16 and over, in a variety of settings including community venues, Learn Devon centres and online classrooms.

You will develop and deliver engaging, accessible lessons that meet learner needs and support progression. You will also assess learners in line with the requirements of awarding bodies and funding organisations, helping learners to achieve their personal goals and recognised qualifications where appropriate.

Our Digital Skills and Community and Engagement teams work closely together to meet the needs of learners and local communities. Although your main focus will be digital skills, the role will also give you opportunities to broaden your teaching practice by contributing to a range of projects and courses, including employability-focused programmes and work supporting young people into work.

This role will primarily support delivery in East and South East Devon, with occasional travel to other Learn Devon venues and community locations across the county. As many of our learners have commitments during the day, some flexibility to deliver evening sessions will be required. A driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential for this role.

This is advertised as a full-time role, although flexible working patterns may be considered, subject to service needs and a minimum availability of three days per week.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A teaching qualification at Level 4 or above.
• Experience and knowledge of teaching digital subjects, such as Scratch, Python, website creation, online safety or cybersecurity.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a flexible diary and associated administration tasks.
• The confidence and initiative to work independently without close supervision.
• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• A patient, encouraging and inclusive approach to working with adult learners.
• Confidence supporting learners with low digital confidence, additional learning needs or barriers to learning.
• The ability to adapt teaching to different levels, settings, learner goals and community needs.
• A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

The successful candidate will:

• Deliver engaging, inclusive learning in community venues, Learn Devon centres and online.
• Teach digital skills from pre-entry level to Level 3, alongside selected community and engagement courses.
• Use Google Classroom and other digital tools to support face-to-face and online learning.
• Create innovative, relevant and accessible lesson plans tailored to learner needs.
• Support learners to set, review and achieve personal learning goals.
• Maintain accurate and timely learner enrolment, progress and achievement records.
• Work collaboratively with Higher Level Learning Support Assistants and wider curriculum teams to support learners and implement support plans where appropriate.
• Assess learner work in line with awarding body requirements and support examination processes, including invigilation where required.
• Maintain and develop professional practice through continued professional development.
