About Us
The Family Intervention Team is a consent-based service supporting families who need Targeted Early Help in Devon. Our service is embedded within Devon Children’s Services, and we work with families whose needs meet the Level 3 threshold.
Our aim is to work alongside families to create positive and sustainable change and, wherever possible, prevent their needs escalating to the point where statutory children’s social care is required. Where a family’s needs do increase, we work closely with social workers and other professionals to ensure families receive the right support at the right time.
We take a whole-family approach, working with children, young people, parents and carers. Families may be experiencing a range of complex and interconnected difficulties, so our practitioners need to be able to understand the family as a whole and identify practical interventions that can make a meaningful difference.
Our service will continue to evolve as we support the national rollout of the Families First agenda.
About the Role
The successful post holder will join Team One within the Exeter and East locality. We are a friendly and supportive team of practitioners, and we are looking forward to welcoming a new colleague to the team.
The role involves travelling across the whole locality, so access to a vehicle during working hours is essential.
You will work with up to 12 families at any one time and will be responsible for assessing the needs of the whole family. You will use your assessment to develop clear intervention plans that identify the changes needed and how these will be achieved. You will then deliver direct, evidence-based interventions with children, young people, parents and carers to support families to make and sustain positive changes.
An important part of the role is coordinating the wider professional network around a family. You will need strong communication and organisational skills to bring professionals and services together, lead multi-agency meetings and ensure that everyone is working towards shared outcomes for the family.
We typically work with families for between six and nine months.
We are looking for someone who has experience of leading multi-agency meetings and a strong track record of building positive and purposeful relationships with children, young people and their families. You will need good assessment skills, the ability to understand and analyse family needs, and, importantly, the ability to turn that assessment into practical interventions that support families to make meaningful changes.
For an informal discussion or more information about the role, please contact: Emily Evely, Exeter and East Family Intervention Team Manager, Team One; Emily.Evely@devon.gov.uk or 01392 382136.
